Dear Reader:

Thank you for investing your time in reading, Reach to the Wounded Healer.

In 1997 while on a retreat at Manresa on the Mississippi, I visited an old friend, Father Walt McCauley, S.J. After experiencing the loss of a friend in a hurricane, my father to Leukemia, a friend to an accidental shooting, a college classmate to a golfing accident, a beloved cousin to a suicide, and a personal friend to a murder, a quote from Terry Tempest Williams (on that very retreat with Father McCauley) inspired me. “Perhaps, I am telling this story in an attempt to heal myself, to confront what I do not know, to create a path for myself with the idea that ‘memory is the only way home’.” So by chance, maybe Divine intervention, I found the inspiration to write Reach to the Wounded Healer, a contemporary fable.

I must admit that in sharing this work with you I feel like the luckiest man on earth. I have been gifted with the discovery of a new passion--writing. In all of my professional training and work experience I would have never dreamed that this adventure would provide me with the fulfillment and satisfaction that it does. I hope that my work reflects my passion and substantiates the investment of your time in me.

Sincerely,
Ernest de l’Autin
